We are a family farm specializing in the breeding of Romanov sheep – one of the most fertile and hardy breeds of sheep in the world. Our family farm of Romanov sheep is located in the village of Brzan (municipality of Batočina) in the heart of Šumadija. The farm currently has about 100 purebred Romanov sheep of the Czech improved line, which we raise in a modern facility built according to European standards. We specialize in the breeding and sale of Romanov sheep – top-quality breeding lambs for further breeding, as well as lambs for fattening, raised in controlled conditions to achieve the best meat quality.

Advantages of Romanov sheep for breeding and fattening

The Romanov sheep originates from Russia and has been valued for centuries for its incredible fertility and resilience. Today, thanks to improved genetics (especially the Czech line), this breed is becoming more and more popular among domestic breeders. What makes it so special and why is it ideal for both herd expansion (breeding) and meat production (fattening)? Below, we highlight several key advantages of the Romanov sheep:

Exceptional fertility: Romanov sheep are world records for the number of lambs. They often give birth to twins, triplets, and even quadruplets and quintuplets in one lamb! This means that one head can produce significantly more offspring per year than the average sheep. In addition, this breed does not have a strictly seasonal character – it is possible to get stronger twice a year with proper care, which drastically accelerates the expansion of the herd.
Fast growth and quality meat: Lambs from the Romanov sheep achieve impressive growth. In good feeding conditions, in about 90-100 days they can reach close to 30 kg of body weight, which shows an excellent potential for fattening. The meat of the Romanov sheep is very tasty and juicy, with a high yield (the proportion of meat after slaughter). Farmers get fast-growing lambs that produce quality lamb sought after in the market.
Resistance and adaptability: This breed is characterized by exceptional resistance and ease of adaptation to different growing conditions. Romanov sheep thrive equally well in colder climates and in warmer regions, on open pasture or in stables. They are relatively resistant to diseases and parasites. Lambs are vital from the moment they are born – they stand up quickly and suckle energetically, while their mothers show a strong maternal instinct. Even when three or more lambs are born, the mothers expertly raise them with minimal intervention from the farmer.
Economy of breeding: The combination of the mentioned traits means that Romanov sheep can be very profitable. A larger number of lambs per ewe and their faster growth bring more profit to the breeder. One often hears the saying that the first two lambs cover the cost of keeping the ewe, and each subsequent lamb of the year represents a net profit. Of course, in order to achieve these results, Romanov sheep require quality nutrition and care – but every dinar invested is returned many times over through the yield of lambs and meat.
